Here's Where CT Cities Rank On Best Places To Raise A Family
A new study has evaluated more than 180 cities in numerous categories to find out which is the best for families.
CONNECTICUT — While Connecticut was ranked high among the best states to raise a family in earlier this year, two of its cities didn't fare as well.
A new analysis from personal finance website WalletHub ranked 182 cities around the country on how friendly they are for families. New Haven came in at 145 and Bridgeport at 161.
Each city was evaluated in categories like education and child care, affordability, family fun, and health and safety. The study examined "45 key metrics that consider essential family dynamics..."

The average family moves 11.7 times in a lifetime. This may be due to new opportunities like a new job, or due to instability such as foreclosure.
“Finding the best place to raise a family is difficult, between balancing an affordable cost of living with good educational opportunities, safety and enough recreation to keep kids entertained," WalletHub Analyst Chip Lupo said.

Both New Haven and Bridgeport ranked low in terms of socioeconomics and affordability. Bridgeport was also toward the bottom in family fun, ranking 150.
Here are the top 10 cities to raise a family in, according to WalletHub:
- Fremont, California
- Overland Park, Kansas
- Plano, Texas
- Irvine, California
- South Burlington, Vermont
- Seattle
- Boise
- Gilbert, Arizona
- Bismarck, North Dakota
- San Diego

Connecticut also landed at 15 on U.S. News & World Report's best states list.
