Hospitalizations Rise As CT Surpasses 60,000 Coronavirus Cases

Norwich continues to battle an outbreak in the small city and has become the most infected part of Connecticut recently.

 Connecticut capped its week with another 290 positive coronavirus cases out of more than 17,000 tests for a positive test rate of 1.7 percent. Connecticut has now amassed 60,038​ cases since the pandemic began in March.

CONNECTICUT — Connecticut capped its week with another 290 positive coronavirus cases out of more than 17,000 tests for a positive test rate of 1.7 percent. Connecticut has now amassed 60,038 cases since the pandemic began in March.

Norwich continues to battle an outbreak of cases with 25 new cases in the past day with 149 since Oct. 1. Norwich has had the most total cases in the past day out of any town or city in Connecticut and the most since Oct. 1.

The city of roughly 40,000 people has the highest per capita coronavirus rate by far in Connecticut with 46.9 cases per 100,000 population between Sept. 20 and Oct. 3. The next closest is New London with 30.5 per 100,000.

The state's next coronavirus report will come out Monday.

Hartford and Waterbury have also seen an uptick in cases with 144 and 101 respectively since Oct. 1.

Statewide hospitalizations once again ticked up with an increase of six patients, which brought the net total to 134. Hospitalizations dropped in Hartford and New London County and remained stable in New Haven County, but Fairfield County saw an 11-patient increase over one day.
