Layoffs Hit CT Radio Stations, Popular On-Air Hosts Let Go

National radio company Entercom has laid off dozens at stations across the country.

CONNECTICUT — Entercom, the giant radio company with more than 200 stations across the country, recently let go some of Connecticut's better-known on-air personalities, The Laurel reports.

Among those let go was Nancy Barrow, a 21-year veteran of 93.7 FM, who posted a video announcing the news on her Instagram page.

Barrow, who was part of the station's popular morning show, said her last show was on April 3, and she has not yet found a new radio home. (Keep up with CT events and news by subscribing to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

On April 2, Entercom announced companywide layoffs, furloughs and pay cuts, which has seen the release of dozens of radio hosts around the country, writes Inside Radio. In Connecticut, the company owns four stations, 1080 AM, 96.5 FM, 93.7 FM and 100.5 FM.

Also leaving their jobs in Connecticut are 28-year veteran Dean Richards, who was let go from 100.5 FM, and Lisa Gold and Sheila Axelson, who both worked at several stations around the state, according to The Laurel.

The main reason for the restructuring efforts is the steep drop off in business due to the new coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has hurt several companies and industries in recent weeks.
