Lucky College Student Notches $547K Lottery Win In Ansonia

The student hit the jackpot on one lottery ticket — then had another big win on a second ticket.

ANSONIA, CT — One lucky college student from Ansonia struck it rich playing the CT Lottery.

The player, a student at a local CT community college, said his life changed after discovering he won a jackpot prize worth $547,414 — followed by another $1,000 win on a scratch game, according to CT Lottery.

The student stopped by a convenience store for a few items when he decided to pick up a “20X Cash 9th Edition” scratch ticket and a “High Roller Progressive” Fast Play ticket. The tickets are $20 and $30, respectively.

He said he doesn’t often play the lottery due to the cost of his education, but was in the mood for a little fun and figured he’d try his luck, according to CT Lottery.

He bought the winning tickets at SSDJ Minimart on Main Street in Ansonia.

SSDJ Minimart will receive a $5,474 bonus for selling the ticket.

The winner said he plans to use the money to pay off student loans and remaining tuition.

He’s also now considering transferring out of community college and into a four-year university, since costs are no longer a barrier.
