Major Company To Close, Mass Layoffs Include CT Employees

Attempts to sell the company have failed, and now it's closing all locations and terminating workers.

KILLINGLY, CT — TransAxle, a remanufacturer of drivetrain components and truck parts, will close all locations and terminate over 200 workers at its locations in several states, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice filed with the state.

Included in the layoffs are four workers at its Killingly site. The location is at 429 Lake Road and provides coverage to the entire New England region.

TransAxle, founded in 1979, has been up for sale "for some time," but has yet to find a buyer, according to the notice.

The job losses are expected to be permanent.

The company started 46 years ago to serve as the local "parts guy."

"Construction was booming, trucks were running non-stop, and it was an ideal time to grow in the truck parts industry," the description on the company's website reads. "We started out as a one location, family-owned business."

The company grew over the years to multiple locations nationwide, specializing in the remanufacturing of transmissions, axles, differentials, and hydraulics.
