Man Charged In Shooting That Injured Waterbury Toddler: Reports

A man has been charged in a shooting that injured a 2-year-old last week.

WATERBURY, CT — A man has been charged in connection with a shooting that injured a 2-year-old boy in Waterbury last week, according to NBC CT. Kharis Samuels, 20, of Waterbury, turned himself in Monday at the Waterbury Police Department.

He is charged with assault, illegal discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment, illegal transfer of a pistol/revolver, criminal use of a weapon, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, and risk of injury to a child. Samuels was held on $750,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, NBC CT reported.

Police said the charges are in connection with a shooting on Pinecrest Drive last Tuesday in which a 2-year-old boy was shot in the torso. Police responded to a call regarding a boy who was brought to the emergency room due to a gunshot wound.

Police said Samuels was showing off a gun at his home when it went off and hit the toddler, according to WTNH News-8.

The child remains in stable condition, and the police investigation is ongoing.
