Find out when to expect wet weather this holiday weekend, according to meteorologists.

The holiday weekend is now expected to start out dry before rainy weather moves in, according to forecasters.

Sunday is expected to be the wettest day of the three-day weekend, meteorologists predict, so plan outdoor activities accordingly.

The National Weather Service reports any lingering light rain moves out by late morning today, then dry weather returns and will last through early Saturday.

“Rain moves in from southwest to northeast on Saturday, but some locations likely get through much of Saturday dry,” the National Weather Service said. “Very wet on Sunday, before things dry out for Memorial Day.”

Connecticut is in a much cooler stretch following the recent heat wave, with temperatures today reaching the upper 60s. Friday will be mostly sunny, with highs in the low 70s. Saturday and Sunday will reach into the 60s, while Memorial Day is expected to be the warmest day of the long weekend, with highs in the mid-70s, according to the National Weather Service.

WFSB reports today will be mostly overcast, with some partial clearing inland before sunset.

“It will be noticeably less humid and cooler with highs in the 60s (back below average),” WFSB reports. “Tomorrow, we end the work week milder (compared to today). While dry, scattered mid and high-level cloudiness will likely filter any sunshine.”

For Memorial Day weekend, WFSB predicts there will be “rounds of showers possible.”

“Not an ideal Holiday weekend by any means, but not a washout either,” WFSB reports. “Saturday, showers appear to become likely later in the day (from southwest to northeast). We’re forecasting highs in the 60s inland, upper 50s along the shoreline. Those showers likely linger into the first half of Sunday, thereafter we’ll be mostly cloudy with highs down a couple degrees compared to Saturday.”

Ryan Hanrahan, chief meteorologist at NBC Connecticut, reports he is “more and more optimistic that most of Saturday will be dry!”

“Lots of clouds but dry air in the lowest few thousand feet of the atmosphere should keep the rain to our southwest for a while,” he predicts. “Rain is still in the forecast Saturday night and Sunday.”

For Memorial Day, WFSB predicts it will be mostly dry, though an “isolated shower can’t be ruled out.”
