More (Hopefully) Drought-Busting Rains Forecast For CT

The National Weather Service said Connecticut is expected to see more heavy rain later this week. Here are the updated details.

CONNECTICUT — Connecticut saw some much-needed rain on Monday and Tuesday with most places picking up an inch or two and some places recording more than three inches of rain.

Parts of Connecticut had been up to 13 inches of rain behind where they should be at this point in the year, so we desperately need the rain. And more good news, as another moderate rainstorm is predicted for Friday and lasting into Saturday.

More than two inches of rain could fall on Connecticut by the time the precipitation ends Saturday afternoon.

But before we have to deal with more rain, we are able to enjoy some beautiful fall weather Wednesday and Thursday.

"After daytime highs around 70 today, southerly flow around the departing high will help temperatures rise into the low to mid 70s on Thursday, about 10 degrees above normal," the weather service said.

More details on when the rain begins Friday

"Timing remains uncertain, but currently thinking that much of the area stays mostly dry through the morning, with only a slight chance of rain for the western half of the area. Rain chances then
ramp up during the afternoon and evening...," the weather service said.

Wind gusts are expected to increase during the rainstorm too.

Current drought conditions in CT:

A total of 31 percent of the state, mainly in western areas of Connecticut are considered abnormally dry. But nearly 40 percent of the state is listed to be in an extreme drought, which includes a lot of eastern Connecticut including most of Tolland, Windham, Hartford, and New London counties.
