Nearly 800 CT Jobs Will Be Gone Around New Year

Several companies have announced layoffs that will take place slightly before or after the New Year. Here's the breakdown.

The New Year is usually a joyous time, but for some in Connecticut it will unfortunately mean layoffs. Several Connecticut companies announced that workers would lose their jobs before the New Year or at some point during 2019 due to downsizing or company closures. There are more than 800 scheduled layoffs set for that timeframe with most taking place just before or after the New Year.

Among some of the biggest layoffs are Konica Minolta Business Solutions in Windsor with 219 layoffs, Bristol-Myers Squibb in Wallingford with 86 and Danone U.S. LLC. in Naugatuck with 129. Sears, which recently declared bankruptcy after years of financial challenges is set to shed 69 positions when its Milford location closes at the end of the year.

Connecticut had a net gain of 1,500 jobs in October and nonagricultural employment growth by 22,300 jobs, according to the latest data from the state Department of Labor. The job growth rate was 1.3 percent over the year and the October unemployment rate was 4.2 percent.

Job website Indeed recently announced that it plans to add another 500 jobs to its Stamford hub. Infosys recently opened its Hartford Technology and Innovation Hub in Hartford that will bring 1,000 jobs to the city.

  • Danone U.S. LLC in Naugatuck: 129 layoffs between March 1 and July 1.
  • North American Power and Gas LLC in Norwalk: 36 layoffs between Jan. 1 and Nov. 1.
  • Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics Inc. in Brookfield: 18 layoffs between Oct. 21 and Dec. 31, 2018.
  • Margaritaville in Uncasville: 59 layoffs on Jan. 2.
  • Bristol-Myers Squibb in Wallingford: 86 layoffs between Nov. 13 and Dec. 31.
  • Builders First Source in East Hartford: 45 layoffs between Dec. 26 and Dec. 31.
  • Sears In Milford: 69 layoffs on Dec. 31.
  • Konica Minolta Business Solutions USA in Windsor: 219 layoffs on Dec. 14.
  • Farmington Bank in Farmington: 95 layoffs between Nov. 5 and March 1.
  • Netsolace in Wallingford: 20 layoffs on Dec. 31
  • Edible Arrangements in Wallingford: 125 layoffs on Dec. 31.
