New Details On Snowy, Wintry, Miserable CT Forecast

The National Weather Service released a snow accumulation estimate map for Friday.

CONNECTICUT — During the overnight hours, most of Connecticut will see snowflakes mix in with rain showers, and there could even be a minor accumulation on grassy areas in far northern areas of the state.

Saturday is shaping up to be a downright miserable weather day with possibly record-cold temperatures and strong wind gusts that will make it feel even colder. Mother's Day will be a bit better and, of course, more rain is forecast for Monday.

WTNH-News 8 Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons said, "Plan on some rain coming in this afternoon! High temperatures well into the 50s midday before falling through the 40s once the rain starts. A cold rain overnight tonight will likely mix with some snow and may even change to a little bit of snow before ending. I am not expecting much! A cold & windy Saturday coming up with high temperatures only in the 40s, plus the wind chill is going to be in the 30s! There could even be a sprinkle flurry. Hello to all Moms for Mother’s Day! It looks brighter with 50s for your afternoon! We could be up around 70 at the end of next week!"

For southern sections of the state, expect rain to develop this afternoon along with some snow may mix in especially in interior sections of southern Connecticut late tonight, the weather service said.

"Temperatures will be some 15 to nearly 20 degrees below normal across the region, and a few record lows will be possible," the weather service said, while adding more rain showers are possible Saturday afternoon.

For northern sections of the state, expect rain to begin later this evening and change to snow, but no major accumulation is expected. Light snow accumulation on grassy areas is possible for western Hartford County and into northern parts of Tolland and Windham counties.

"Blustery conditions with near-record cold temperatures are expected for Saturday, with scattered rain and higher-elevation snow showers," the weather service said. "Then dry weather with moderating temperatures follow Sunday. Low pressure may bring a period of rain around Monday, followed by drier but cool weather Tuesday into Wednesday. A pattern change to warmer weather is possible late next week and beyond."

And in Litchfield County, the National Weather Service said, "Rain will change to snow this evening and accumulate up to an inch for valley areas, with 1 to 4 inches across the hills and mountains, mainly on grassy and non-paved surfaces. Locally slick conditions are possible."
