NEW HAVEN magazine from Seasons Media, LLC set to launch in early September

Glossy magazine will publish 6X yearly, be direct-mailed to homes

Earlier this year, New Haven business leaders approached James Tully, owner-publisher of Seasons magazines, to address the lack of a high-quality publication reflecting the vibrance and culture of Connecticut’s second-largest city.

“There was a general hole in the market, as two existing magazines had stopped printing in late 2016,” Tully explains. After working hand-in-hand with the New Haven Chamber of Commerce to perform due diligence in the Elm City and surrounding region, Tully agreed to launch a full-color publication that will be called, simply, NEW HAVEN.

The new glossy lifestyle magazine will be published 6 times a year, and will be direct mailed to almost 12,000 households in the Greater New Haven area. It will also offer a subscription model. The premiere (September/October) issue will be in area homes the week of September 11.

NEW HAVEN will be a sister publication to Seasons’ five award-winning quarterly publications, which serve the Farmington Valley, West Hartford, Glastonbury, the Northwest Hills and the Shoreline. These magazines have won numerous gold and silver awards from the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists since the magazines were launched in 2006.

“What’s special about this is that we bring Seasons’ track record of outstanding editorial, along with a spectacular team of award-winning local writers, photographers, designers, editors and artists who will collaborate to tell real stories about the people, the places, the events and the history that make New Haven such an amazing city,” Tully says.

“New Haven is a city that is on the upswing, and we are so proud to be able to tell these stories and deliver them to the homes of area’s residents. Our goal with each one of the articles in NEW HAVEN is to showcase the amazing elements of the city and its fascinating residents, just as Seasons does in other parts of the state. When readers delve into one of our stories, the subject matter may or may not be something they’re already familiar with, but they will always learn something interesting.”

Karen Avitabile, the editor of NEW HAVEN, says the magazine will include in-depth articles that highlight “city happenings, business, culture, food, non-profit organizations and history” as well a local calendar of events.

She describes it as a “solid, interesting, well-rounded magazine with gorgeous photos by award-winning photographers. It is printed on high-quality paper and has a sleek feel to it. It’s definitely going to be a coffee table magazine that you’re not going to want to throw away.”

Avitabile said celebrity chef Mario Batali, who owns upscale restaurants in New Haven and New York, will be on the cover of the premiere issue. “We’re so pleased that Mario wanted to be featured in NEW HAVEN magazine alongside chef Samantha Moore at Tarry Lodge, his New Haven restaurant. We’re proud to have them represented on the cover.”

She said the magazine’s website, newhavenmag.com, will feature exclusive stories, videos and photography slideshows to expand on the print version.

Tully notes that Seasons Media, LLC is a true multimedia company. In addition to publishing magazines, it has robust social media platforms, a video production component, and a television show airing on WFSB called Seasons Magazines Up Close.

Seasons Media, LLC, which is locally owned and operated right here in Connecticut, last year marked its 10th year in business. With the addition of NEW HAVEN, Seasons Media will now deliver its magazines to 60,000 households throughout Connecticut.
