Nutmeg Receives State Level Community Service Award

Credit Union Awarded the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award

Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union has been awarded the state level Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service award from the Credit Union League of Connecticut. Nutmeg is one of two state-wide winners for this award and now moves on as a finalist on the national level.

Nutmeg was recognized for their 2017 Credit Union Youth Week fundraiser in April, benefitting the March of Dimes. The organization helps families with premature infants during their most critical time after birth. After a Nutmeg employee gave birth to premature twins in 2009, she sought resources and help from March of Dimes. After the outpouring of support she received, she has been paying it forward ever since. Nutmeg rallied behind her to help this worthy cause.

Nutmeg employees donated $10 each and were granted a “Dress Down” Week opting to wear jeans Monday – Friday. At the end of the week, the staff unified in support wearing purple, a March of Dimes color to show their commitment to the cause and each other. During the week, branch staff advocated for new children’s Kidz Club Savings Accounts to families looking to start their children’s financial futures. All accounts opened that week were met with a $10 matching donation to March of Dimes from the Credit Union. In under five days, Nutmeg was able to raise $2,000 to help the organization.

“Giving back to our communities and the families we serve is what we do. Knowing we were helping a cause that means so much to an employee was an added bonus. Being recognized on a state level for our charity work is an honor, and we look forward to doing it again in the future,” says John Holt, President & CEO of Nutmeg.

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award is given to a Credit Union or Multiple Credit Union Group for its social responsibility projects within the community. The organizations were selected by a panel at the Credit Union League of Connecticut and will be reviewed by the Credit Union National Association for potential national recognition.
