Popular Country Store's Torrington Location Closing Indefinitely

TORRINGTON, CT — A longtime Connecticut country store's Torrington location will be closing indefinitely as of Friday, according to a recent announcement.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, the owners of Clevelands' Country Store of Torrington acknowledged the sudden closure "may come as a shock to many" but emphasized the store's longtime Plymouth location will still be up and running.

"We want to thank all of our loyal Torrington customers who supported us over the past two years," the post reads.

In the post, the owners outlined a number of reasons for the Torrington location's closure, including roadwork in the area that "has negatively impacted the business."

The owners also attributed changes to the industry as a reason for the closure.

"Labor costs, insurance, cost of goods, electricity have all skyrocketed," the post reads. "At the end of the day, these are things we cannot control, and even after raising prices to hedge it, we are not doing enough volume to justify the business running itself."

The owners also noted their desire to "focus on our successful businesses" as another reason to close the Torrington store.

"We own several other successful companies that we must focus on," the post reads. "Our Plymouth store has been established for 20 years, and we look forward to seeing many Torrington regulars in that location."

According to the store's website, Clevelands' Country Store offers a number of products ranging from jerky, honey, salsas and bread and pancake mixes to condiments, incense, fudge and nostalgic gum and candies.

The store also features a wide menu of breakfast options, deli sandwiches and weekly specials, as well as deli meats, ice cream and catering options.

"Clevelands' county store is a full-service deli, ice cream shop, candy shop, gift shop and caterer," the Torrington store's Facebook page reads.

The Plymouth store is located at 655 Main Street, and the Torrington store is located at 221 Oak Avenue.

"We have made many friends in this adventure in Torrington," the post reads, "and we hope to see and serve you guys in Plymouth."
