Power Mostly Restored In Connecticut Following Thursday's Storm

A major tornado and several microbursts are getting the blame for cutting a destructive path that knocked out power for over 70K people.

CONNECTICUT — Eversource reported that 2,974 homes or businesses were still without power Saturday morning, and 2,841 of them were in Branford. United Illuminating said that 3,586 of their customers were still in the dark, mostly in North Haven.

These two towns, and neighboring Bethany, Hamden, East Haven, North Branford, and Guilford were the hardest hit when a major tornado and several microbursts bowled through the area late Thursday afternoon. More than 70,000 people lost power in the state.

Power restoration should be substantially complete Saturday. The exception will be customers in areas where damage is so severe that crews will have to rebuild the electric system. Those customers can expect to get their power back by Monday.
