Robber Steals Cash From Credit Union In Willimantic: PD

WILLIMANTIC, CT — A man walked into the Charter Oak Federal Credit Union Wednesday morning and told staff he was there to rob it, according to police.

Employees then handed over envelopes of cash to him, police said.

Staff called 911 to report the robbery, which happened around 10 a.m. on Sept. 9 at the 893 Main St. credit union.

Police arrived within one minute of being dispatched and found a man matching the suspect’s description on Main Street, according to police. Police said the man had Charter Oak Federal Credit Union envelopes containing cash in his possession.

According to witnesses, the robber never displayed any weapon or implied that he had one, police said.

Police charged Maurice Archie Jr. Wing, 63, of Willimantic, with second-degree robbery, second-degree breach of peace, and fourth-degree larceny.

Police did not disclose exactly how much cash was taken during the robbery. The charge of fourth-degree larceny is for thefts greater than $1,000 and up to $2,000, according to state statute.

Wing was held overnight on a $150,000 bond, and he is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Danielson on Sept. 10.
