Scores Under Par Ensure Victories In D-III and Girls Golf

The Division III and girls high school golf state championships were mostly decided by runaways, with one event finishing fairly close.

At the two remaining CIAC high school golf championship events played Tuesday, three of the four victories were accomplished rather easily, with just one competition being remotely close.

At Fairview Farm Golf Course in Harwinton, Colby Norton of Lewis Mills fired a 3-under par 69 to win the Division III individual title by five strokes over runner-up Colin Luca of East Catholic. The Eagles did exact a bit of payback from last year, when they lost to Killingly in a 3-hole playoff; this time, East Catholic posted a 315 total to edge the Redmen by four strokes, earning its first championship since 2015 and 13th in school history.

The girls tackled Tashua Knolls Golf Course in Trumbull, but none better than Sydney Nethercott of Greenwich, who posted a 2-under par 70 to outdistance runner-up Meghan Mitchell of New Canaan, who shot 76. For the third straight year, New Canaan captured the team crown with a 320 total, far outdistancing the 349 of Greenwich.
