Several Lost Dogs Found With Their Appearances Altered In CT

Multiple lost dogs in Connecticut have been found with their fur cut, shaved, or dyed to the point where they are unrecognizable.

CONNECTICUT — Multiple lost dogs in Connecticut have been found with their appearances altered over the past couple of weeks, the CT Dog Gone Recovery Volunteer Network said in a Facebook post April 24.

"We can’t believe that we have to warn our lost dog owners about this," the organization wrote. "We had one dog that was shaved down and two different dogs whose fur was dyed."

Some of the dogs were given false patches or eyebrows, according to the organization, which added that the idea is likely to prevent the dogs from being recognized by their owners.

In one case, a dog from New Haven who is naturally brown was purple when he was found, a CT Dog Gone Recovery volunteer told WTNH.

"Thankfully, they were reunited with their rightful owner," CT Dog Gone Recovery wrote on Facebook.

But they still want all lost dog owners to be aware of the potential that the same could be done to their pets.

"We highly suggest that you microchip your dogs," according to the organization. "This way if they are found and scanned, they can be reunited with their families."

And remember to keep your dogs on leashes, the organization added.
