Several Thunderstorm Chances In CT's Weather Forecast

We really, really need the rain and it may come via a series of storm chances.

CONNECTICUT — We definitely need the rain and there are a few upcoming chances for thunderstorms over the next several days.

However, the chances for storms and brief periods of heavy rain appear to be less than 50 percent and no major rain storms appear on the horizon through the weekend.

The National Weather Service does say that if there are thunderstorms areas could experience heavy rain for a brief period of time.

According to the forecast, Connecticut may see thunderstorms tonight, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. It seems like Wednesday is the best chance for the most widespread rain.

The forecast also calls for hot and humid weather to remain through the weekend.

Today, the heat index may reach the middle to upper 90s, the weather service said.

"Weak disturbances will affect the area today and tonight. These will be the focus for showers and thunderstorms," the National Weather Service said. "Thereafter, a slow moving cold front will approach and push offshore by Wednesday night, continuing the chances for precipitation until
then. The main threat with these storms would be heavy rainfall, with minor urban and poor drainage possible. Less humid and slightly cooler conditions are expected for Thursday, but a passing shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out in the afternoon."

WTNH News 8 Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons said "I’m expecting some spotty rain and thunder tomorrow morning to early afternoon then clearing. The humidity drops for Thursday although there could be a pop-up thunderstorm Thursday afternoon and evening."
