Severe Weather Threat Increasing In CT: Here's What You Need To Know

There is a chance for severe thunderstorms late Monday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The main concern is "damaging winds the main threat. Heavy rain could also lead to isolated flash flooding."

The western part of the state has the best chance for severe weather, the weather service said.

"Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms may produce strong to damaging winds in excess of 60 mph," the weather service said. "This could lead to damage to trees and power lines, resulting in power outages."

Flash flooding is also a concern.

WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said, "There’s the chance of an isolated storm this evening, but it will be hit-or-miss. That being said, any storms that do pop up could be a bit on the stronger side as they feed off the heat and humidity, which will be increasing through the afternoon. As a result, the Storm Prediction Center has central and western CT in a level 1 out of 5 risk for severe storms. Damaging wind gusts will be the top threat if a severe storm forms, along with heavy rainfall that could lead to localized flooding."
