Snow is predicted to fall throughout Connecticut on New Year’s Eve, potentially causing slick roadways for holiday revelers.
The National Weather Service is forecasting light snow tonight through Thursday morning.
While most areas will get less than an inch, eastern Connecticut could get closer to two inches, it predicts.
The National Weather Service anticipates snow will start between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. tonight, and end Thursday morning between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
WFSB is calling Wednesday a “First Alert Weather Day” due to light snow tonight.
Before the snow arrives, today will be mostly dry, with isolated flurries and cloudy skies, according to WFSB. Temperatures will reach into the low 30s.
“As we count down the start of ’26, a clipper moving into New England will produce some light snow,” WFSB reports.
Snow is expected to be falling around the time holiday partygoers are traveling tonight, and meteorologists are advising motorists to be cautious.
“We’re expecting a coating to 2″, but the timing is the issue... it will arrive from west to east after 8 p.m. and be likely across CT at midnight, and wrap up in the pre-dawn hours on Thursday,” WFSB reports. “Slick spots are possible as you head to/from any New Year’s Eve destinations.”
It will also be very cold tonight, with temperatures in the 20s, according to the National Weather Service.
After the snow clears out on New Year’s Day, it will gradually become sunny, with high temperatures in the 25 to 30 degree range, according to WFSB. Wind gusts could approach 29 miles per hour, making it feel colder, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologists with the National Weather Service predict the rest of the week and the weekend will be dry, with sunny skies and daytime high temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s.
