CT Weather: Snow Squalls Wednesday, Record Cold Thanksgiving

Snow squalls and snow showers may make roads slippery Wednesday afternoon in Connecticut on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Connecticut may see snow squalls and showers on Wednesday afternoon, and while accumulation isn't expected to be a big deal, it could make conditions slippery on one of the largest travel days in the country.

And once the snow squalls/showers end Wednesday evening, it will pave the way for what could be record cold temperatures on Thanksgiving. Numerous school districts have already moved their high school football games away from Thanksgiving due to the forecast cold weather.

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for tonight in Northern Connecticut for black ice concerns as roads and sidewalks may become icy. On Wednesday, a Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for Northern Connecticut due to "There is a risk for localized snow squalls late Wednesday and Wednesday night. Brief accumulations and low visibility are possible." (To sign up for free, local breaking news alerts from more than 100 Connecticut communities, click here.)

The National Weather Service says for Southern Connecticut, "it will turn colder into Wednesday morning with lows mainly into the lower to middle 30s for ... the immediate coast, with middle and upper 20s inland.

"It will be breezy and chilly on Wednesday as temperatures will average below normal. After a good deal of sunshine, clouds will begin to increase as an early season arctic cold front begins to
approach the region later in the day. This may lead to some snow showers and flurries, first across interior sections, and eventually closer to the coast by evening.
