Teaching Kids That Dental Hygiene Doesn't Take A Vacation
Wethersfield Dentist Shares Her Expertise At Summer Camps And Daycare Centers

Kids love sweet treats like ice cream and popsicles, but all that sugar can damage tender young teeth. This summer, Dr. Ukti Phadnis of Wethersfield Dental Group has taken her show on the road to teach kids that oral hygiene doesn’t take a vacation. Dr. Phadnis has visited several daycare centers and camps to educate children on the basics of proper dental care.
“It’s critical that we teach children as soon as possible about the importance of taking care of their teeth,” said Dr. Phadnis of Wethersfield Dental Group. “Habits they develop now will carry through the rest of their lives and we want to set them up for healthy dental futures.”
The facts are that 42% of children 2 to 11 have had cavities in their primary teeth and 23% of them do not receive treatment. These kids have an average of 1.6 decayed primary teeth and 3.6 decayed primary surfaces. Dr. Phadnis not only demonstrates proper brushing and flossing, she explains how the food we eat can cause damage.

Dr. Phadnis has enjoyed visiting groups in Wethersfield at Kids Village, the YMCA and Rainbow Center for Children and Families, along with Kid’s Lane in Rocky Hill. Her goal is to also make children comfortable with dental professionals and procedures to take the fear out of a trip to the dentist.
“Children can be more receptive outside of the dental office,” said Dr. Phadnis. “Kids age four through nine are quick to learn and have such enthusiasm and positive attitudes. They love cleaning the teeth of our stuffed mascot Mr. Dino!”
