Teen Dies After Falling From Moving Truck In Burlington: State Police

State police said initial information suggests the passenger, a 17-year-old girl, may have been injured after falling from the vehicle.

BURLINGTON, CT — A 17-year-old girl died early Sunday morning after falling out of a moving pickup truck in Burlington, according to state police.

According to an accident summary provided by state police, a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a Harwinton man was traveling along Fairview Drive near Polly Dan Road around 1:30 a.m. when "unknown events occurred" that caused the truck's passenger to sustain serious injuries.

State police said initial information suggests the passenger, identified as Sophie Ringquist, 17, of Burlington, may have been injured after falling out of the vehicle while it was in motion.

Ringquist was taken to Bristol Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased, state police said.

A medical examiner's office told News 8 the cause of her death was blunt impact injuries to her torso.

State police said they were notified of the incident after Ringquist had been taken to the hospital and are actively interviewing and seeking witnesses, as well as any available video footage of the incident.
