These 10 CT Companies Are Among America’s Best Employers

The new ranking is based on a survey of more than 160,000 employees of companies with at least 500 people working in U.S. operations.

CONNECTICUT — Edgewell Personal Care, Yale University, Lego Group and Hartford HealthCare are the best employers with headquarters in Connecticut, according to a new ranking from Forbes.

The Forbes report, America’s Best Employers By State, is based on a survey of more than 160,000 employees of companies with at least 500 people working in U.S. operations.

The survey, conducted by the market research firm Statista, asked participants how likely they were on a scale of zero to 10 to recommend their employer as a good place to work. Respondents were also asked to evaluate employers they’d worked for within the past two years, and organizations they knew within their industry or through friends or family who worked there.

By those measures, the top 10 employers with headquarters in Connecticut are:

  1. Edgewell Personal Care, a packaged goods business based in Shelton, with 2,200 employees; Rod R. Little is the CEO of the school, founded in 2015.
  2. Yale University, based in New Haven with 14,331 employees; Peter Salovey is the CEO of the school, founded in 1701.
  3. Lego Group, a packaged goods business based in Enfield, with 27,338 employees; Niels B. Christiansen is the CEO of the company, founded in 1932.
  4. Yale New Haven Health, a health care and social services firm based in New Haven, with 12,000 employees; Christopher O'Connor is the CEO of the company, founded in 1826.
  5. University of Connecticut Health Center, a health care and social services firm based in Farmington, with 5,000 employees; Andrew Agwunobi is the CEO of the company, founded in 1961.
  6. Hartford HealthCare, a health care and social services firm based in Hartford, with 37,000 employees. Jeffrey Flaks is the CEO of the company, founded in 1985.
  7. Webster Bank, a banking and financial services company base din Waterbury, with 4,131 employees. John R. Ciulla is the CEO of the company, founded in 1935.
  8. Henkel, a packaged goods business based in Rocky Hill, with 48,900 employees. Carsten Knobel is the CEO of the company, founded in 1876.
  9. Mohegan, a travel and leisure company based in Uncasville, with 11,173 employees. Ray Pineault is the CEO of the company, founded in 1995.
  10. Cigna, an insurance company based in Bloomfield, with 67,425 employees. David Michael Cordani is the CEO of the company, founded in 1792.

Workers from all 50 states and the District of Columbia answered the most recent survey. Those findings were supplemented with data from the previous three surveys. In all, 1,294 organizations made the final cut.

Those in the final list are performing well with workers for their employee retention efforts, according to Forbes.

“When employees are in their roles for longer, leaders need to consider how they can ensure that they are providing challenges and development opportunities for that member of the staff to keep them engaged, satisfied, and productive,” Becky Wallace, head of people at LearnUpon, a corporate learning platform, told Forbes.

The report found that fewer than 50 percent of workers think their employer invests in the skills they need to advance.
