Here Are The Safest Towns In Connecticut For 2019: New List

A new report ranks the safest places to live in CT for 2019. Where does your town rank?

Connecticut gets a lot of flak in various rankings, but one area it excels in is public safety. The Nutmeg State has the lowest violent crime rate in the United States and the 6th lowest for property crime.

Crime in Connecticut dropped 19 percent since 2011, including a 19 percent drop in violent crimes. In 2017 crime reached its lowest recorded level since 1967. The state's prison population has also dropped 23 percent since 2011. Connecticut is on track to cut its prison and jail population in half over the next few years.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security ranked the safest towns and cities in Connecticut based on the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics and population sizes. Towns with populations under 10,000 weren't ranked. NCHSS also computed a "police adequacy" variable which measures the total number of crimes compared to the number of police employees.
