Thunderstorms, Rain To Trigger Major Weather Changes This Weekend For CT

A cold front will move through Connecticut this afternoon, bringing the potential for thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.
After the front passes, it will feel more like fall, with much cooler temperatures.
The National Weather Service predicts scattered showers are possible today due to the cold front, which is expected to move through between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.

“Brief, heavy rainfall and a rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out,” the National Weather Service said.
Most of the day today will be unseasonably warm, with high temperatures reaching into the low 80s. The National Weather Service predicts a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. in southern Connecticut, and a 30 percent chance of showers after 4 p.m. in northern Connecticut.

WFSB predicts the cold front’s passage through the region later today could bring “showers, maybe even a downpour and a clap of thunder.”
WTNH’s forecast says, “Rain tonight could be briefly moderate to heavy, with a rumble of thunder possible too. This all comes with a cold front that will sweep through and bring an end to the humidity for the foreseeable future!”
Looking ahead
WFSB anticipates it will be much cooler and less humid starting this weekend, with temperatures closer to typical fall weather.
Saturday will be sunny with highs in the upper 60s, a nice day for fall outdoor fun. Sunday will start off partly sunny, with highs in the mid-60s, though there is a 20 to 30 percent chance of showers late Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
“Saturday is the pick of the weekend with bright sunshine and comfortable temps! Sunday starts chilly with some sunshine before clouds increase midday/afternoon, followed by showers late in the evening,” WTNH said.
WFSB reports, “while the daylight hours are expected to stay dry (Sunday), isolated showers are possible late, say after 6 p.m.”
The upcoming work week will continue the cooler trend, with daytime highs reaching into the 60s through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
WFSB predicts there may be the first frost of the season in inland Connecticut on Wednesday morning.
