The father of two died after a motorist hit him while he was working Tuesday evening on Tunxis Avenue, according to police.
BLOOMFIELD, CT — A motorist struck and killed a tow truck operator Tuesday evening, according to police.
Captain James Salvatore said the accident happened on Tunxis Avenue around 7:37 p.m. The initial report came in as an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
When police arrived, they found an unresponsive man lying in the road near the tow truck.

The vehicle which hit the victim was found on its roof on Tunxis Avenue. Its driver, who remained on scene, was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, police said.
The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Team is leading the investigation, which is ongoing. No charges have been filed, police said.
Police as of early Wednesday afternoon had not released the identities of the motorist or the victim.
The victim’s loved ones, however, identified him as Alex Ramos, a husband and father of two young children who worked for Governor's Auto Body & Towing.
A GoFundMe campaign launched Wednesday, “In Memory of Alex Ramos: Aid for His Loved Ones” seeks to raise $8,000.
“Alex was working roadside, loading a vehicle, when he was struck and killed,” the campaign states. “Alex leaves behind his wife, his mother, and two very young children, only 4 and 1 years old. At an age when their biggest worries should be bedtime stories, toys and what they want for breakfast, these children are now facing life without their dad.”
Money raised will help with funeral and final expenses, and any remaining funds will go to help support the victim’s family, according to the campaign.
“There is no amount of money that can replace a husband, a son or a father. It cannot give two little children their dad back. But together, we can make sure this family knows they are not facing this tragedy alone,” the campaign states.

Campaign organizer Holly Perron of East Hartford urged motorists to be careful when encountering workers along the roadside.
“In Alex's memory, please remember the message that every tow operator wants motorists to understand: SLOW DOWN. MOVE OVER. There is a person standing beside that truck,” the campaign states.
