Tropical System To Impact CT: Here's What To Know

A tropical system has a strong chance of bringing several inches of rain and flooding to parts of Connecticut later this week.

CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the southern part of the state due to a developing tropical system that could dump 2 to 3 inches of rainfall Friday into Saturday.

There is a 70 percent chance of a tropical system developing and approaching southern New England late Friday into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm could bring flash flooding to the area, particularly in southern Fairfield and New Haven counties where rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches are possible Friday night into early Saturday, according to NWS.

Rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches are predicted for Middlesex, New London and the northern parts of Fairfield and New Haven counties. Not as much rain is predicted for Hartford County and other northern parts of the state.

Coastal Fairfield and New Haven counties

Friday

A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 85. East wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 71. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.

Saturday

Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then showers likely between noon and 2 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday Night

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers between 8 p.m. and midnight. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Middlesex, New London, inland Fairfield and New Haven

A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon.
