TV, Appliance Shop With Deep History Closes In CT Town

Hurme TV and Appliance was in business for 75 years before the shop closed earlier this month.

DANIELSON, CT — After 75 years in business, Hurme TV and Appliance in Danielson closed its doors July 1, CT Insider reported. The store is closing as its owner, Michael Gaudreau, said he will be retiring.

Gaudreau, 65, of Brooklyn, began working at the store under his father at 14 and took over the business in 1998.

The store was founded as a TV service store in 1948 by Birger Hurme. Gaudreau's father purchased the business in 1963.

Gaudreau, a Killingly High School graduate, started at the shop by doing deliveries and fixing people's antennas. In 1977, his father decided to expand the store into selling appliances, which helped sustain the business in the decades to come, according to CT Insider.

Gaudreau is working on selling the space to another business.
