U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy Discharged From Hospital After Suffering Stroke
The lawmaker anticipates missing votes during his recovery at a rehabilitation center.

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) has been discharged from The Johns Hopkins Hospital following his stroke last weekend, his office announced Friday.
Murphy said his recovery is ongoing, however, and he anticipates missing “several weeks” of votes in the Senate during his rehabilitation.
According to Murphy, last Saturday, Oct. 31, he felt something was “not right” with his body, and he called 911.

“I’m glad I did. I was diagnosed with a small bleed in the thalamus region of my brain,” he said.
His office previously indicated Murphy had started experiencing numbness in his arm while at his son’s hockey game.

Dr. Jose Suarez, chief of Neurosciences Critical Care at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, said in a statement, “Senator Murphy experienced a small hemorrhagic stroke. He has shown tremendous progress, and at the current rate of improvement, we expect that he will make a full recovery following rehabilitation.”
Murphy said he will be spending the next several weeks at a rehabilitation center.
“This has been a scary experience for me and my family,” Murphy said.
According to Murphy, he is still staying in contact with his team and colleagues remotely.
“My staff continues to carry out our legislative priorities, serve constituents, and ensure the work of my office continues uninterrupted,” he said, in the announcement Friday.
