Warning Issued Over Checks Stolen From Post Office In CT: Police

Wolcott police issued the warning over the weekend.

WOLCOTT, CT — Wolcott police are issuing a warning to residents to check the status of any checks recently mailed from the U.S. Post Office at 803 Wolcott Road, after the department received several complaints of stolen checks.

The stolen checks were "fraudulently altered and/or cashed," officials wrote on Facebook.

"The appropriate U.S. Postal Service authorities have been notified and are investigating these incidents," Wolcott police said. "If you have recently mailed a check from this location, we strongly encourage you to monitor your bank account and verify that the check was received and processed by the intended recipient."

In the event of any suspicious or unauthorized activity, Wolcott police urge people to immediately contact their financial institution to report the incident.

"As a precaution, residents may want to consider using electronic payment methods or other secure options when available," police said.
