Windsor, Xavier And West Hartford Schools Win Track Championships

NEW BRITAIN, CT — The larger schools of Connecticut visited Veterans Stadium at Willow Brook Park Wednesday, as the Class LL and Class L outdoor track and field championship meets were contested.

The town of West Hartford had a dual celebration following the Class LL event, as Hall's boys breezed to its fifth straight division title and the Conard girls won a state crown for the first time since 1979. In Class L, the Windsor girls captured the championship for the fifth straight time and 12th since 2010, while the Xavier boys won their 10th overall division title, but first since 1998.

Three division records were broken in the Class LL meet, by Liv Sherry of Conard (800), Audrey Kirkutis of Conard (high jump) and Gianluca Bianchi of Greenwich (400). In Class L, a new standard was set by the Windsor girls 4 x 400 relay team.

Winners of two events in Class LL were Tess Sherry of Conard (1600, 3200) and Hannah Graham of Norwich Free Academy (shot put, discus). In Class L, there were five multiple individual event winners: Victoria Francis of Windsor (200, 400), Audrey Kozak of Shelton (100, long jump), Gabriela DeFelice of New Canaan (shot put, discus), Sam Forte of Xavier (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Treshawn Blair of Bristol Central (long jump, triple jump).
