Woodstock First Selectman Jay Swan Dies
The town announced the death of Woodstock's chief elected official on Wednesday.
WOODSTOCK, CT — Woodstock First Selectman Jay Swan has died, according to an announcement on Wednesday from the town.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of First Selectman Jay Swan. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Jay exemplified service to his town and community and will be greatly missed. We have no other information at this time," the announcement on Facebook said.
Residents expressed their condolences in the comments underneath the post.

"Woodstock was very lucky to have Jay, what an outstanding selectman & such a phenomenal one of a kind man, he will be greatly missed," one person wrote.
"So heartbreaking to hear of his passing. Thank you Jay for all of your years of service to this town. You will be deeply missed," wrote another.

The Connecticut Republican Party posted about Swan's death on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"We would like to extend our condolences to the friends and family of Jay Swan, the First Selectman of the town of Woodstock," the CT GOP said. "Jay's years of public service were a testament to the dedication he had to his town and community. He will be dearly missed."

State Sen. Jeff Gordon (R-35) issued a statement, saying he was "very saddened and heartbroken" to hear the news.
"He was a personal friend for many years, and we had a great professional relationship as town officials in Woodstock," Gordon said. "I actually had a meeting I was working on with him to try to set up for this weekend to discuss some issues about Woodstock. He did a phenomenal job as first selectman. Also, during his many years as constable, he did wonderful work in that regard."
