Xavier Rolls To 2nd Straight State Open Wrestling Championship

NEW HAVEN, CT — On the strength of having two weight class champions, two runners-up and seven placewinners, Xavier High School breezed to victory in the CIAC State Open wrestling championships for the second straight year Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.

The Falcons rolled up 175.5 points over the course of the 2-day event to easily outdistance runner-up New Fairfield, which had 121.5. Newtown was a close third with 120.

Concurrently with the Open was the statewide girls invitational, with 12 individual weight class champions crowned.
