10 Avon Organizations Benefit From Special Grant Funds

AVON, CT — The Avon Greater Together Community Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving recently announced that 10 local organizations will receive much-needed funding to keep their programs going.

These grants will fund programs and events addressing targeted needs for the town and its residents.

The 2024 awardees include:

“Our committee was excited to be able to fund so many local organizations doing such great work,” said Haleigh Guerrera, chair of the Avon Greater Together Community Fund Advisory Committee. “We were able to fund a diverse group of organizations that met targeted needs, including mental health services, basic human needs, services for seniors, and diversity, equity, and inclusion programming.”

While the committee issued an open call for proposals to all nonprofits, an October 2023 town-wide survey helped identify areas of greatest need.

Any nonprofit registered as a 501(c)(3) organization that serves the residents of Avon was eligible to apply for these grants.

Individuals and for-profit businesses, as well as civic organizations that lack a 501(c)(3) IRS designation, were ineligible.

In 2019, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving established $100,000 in community funds for each of the 29 towns in the foundation’s region, which includes Avon.

Since then, the fund has received another $80,000 totaling in an investment of $180,000.
