The music department at First Church Simsbury will present, as the final part of this year’s concert series, a special cabaret performance by outstanding jazz, R &amp; B and New Orleans artist Wanda Houston, at 7 PM on Friday, May 8.
Palmer Hall, the church’s great gathering hall, will be decked out with candles and decorations on each table, and there will be light fare and beverages available as you sit with friends and enjoy a mesmerizing mix of jazz and R&amp;B music in a fun, informal atmosphere on a warm spring evening.&nbsp;Houston, a Chicago native who has come to call the Berkshires “home” after touring internationally, is known throughout the region as the “Berkshire Diva”.Her project, known as the “HBH Band”, consists of some exceptional and seasoned area musicians: Berklee grad and area teacher and performer Jay Bradley on drums, and keyboardist Scott Heth, also a long-time Western CT and Berkshire performer, on the grand piano. We’re excited to invite students in&nbsp;grades 4–7&nbsp;to campus for&nbsp;S.P.A.R.K.—a free, hands-on&nbsp;morning of discovery&nbsp;at Kingswood Oxford on&nbsp;Saturday, May 16.
S.P.A.R.K.&nbsp;stands for&nbsp;Science. Play. Action. Research. Knowledge,&nbsp;and that’s exactly what the morning is all about. Students will dive into interactive labs, ask big questions, and explore how science connects to the world around them.
Throughout the morning, students will rotate through all three engaging sessions:
Snack Science: Cracking the Code of Carbs, Fats &amp; Proteins
Students will test everyday foods to uncover the building blocks of life - carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins.
From Cabbage to Chemistry: A Color-Changing Exploration of pH
Using red cabbage as a natural indicator, students will experiment with acids and bases and watch chemistry come alive in vibrant color.
