2 Police Officers Almost Run Over by Suspects in Stolen Car Out of Avon: State Police

The incident began as a reported stolen car and quickly escalated into a multi-town pursuit. Three arrests were made.

Two Newington police officers were almost run over by men in a stolen vehicle out of Avon and State Police were able to capture the men from Hartford, West Hartford and a juvenile, according to State Police spokeswoman Kelly Grant. The accused from Hartford also allegedly tried to carjack another vehicle after trying to flee on foot, police said.

At 11:30 a.m. Thursday, the Newington Police Department put out a BOLO for a vehicle which was stolen out of Avon, police said. Newington Police attempted to stop the vehicle in their town and the vehicle attempted to run over two Newington Police officers, police said.

Troopers later located the vehicle on Route 5/15 northbound where they attempted to stop the vehicle, police said. The vehicle refused to stop and exited off Exit 87 where it ran over a DOT sign while attempting to evade Troopers, police said.

It then continued onto Brainard/Maxim Road in Hartford, where it came to a dead-end, police said. The vehicle then completed a u-turn and drove directly at a court investigator's unmarked vehicle which had emergency lights lit before swerving towards the vehicle, police said. This brief pursuit was terminated, police added.

A short time later the vehicle was located abandoned in the area of East River Drive in East Hartford. Three suspects were located a short time later in the immediate area, when it was learned that (Alvorado) attempted to car jack another vehicle in a further attempt to flee, police said. The three occupants of the stolen vehicle were arrested and it was determined the operator of the stolen vehicle was a juvenile, police said.

Fermin Adorno, of West Hartford was charged with second-degree larceny, interfering with an officer and possession of less than ½ ounce of marijuana and held on a $250,000 surety bond.

Alexis Marcello Alvarado of Hartford was charged with second-degree larceny, robbery involving an occupied vehicle (carjacking) and interfering with an officer and held on a $250,000 surety bond. Both the above parties are scheduled to appear at G.A.-12 Manchester on April 28, 2017.

The juvenile was charged with second-degree larceny, first-degree criminal trover damage to a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit and evading the scene of an accident.

The juvenile was transported to the Hartford Juvenile Detention Center and scheduled to appear at the Hartford Juvenile Court on April 28, 2017.
