America's Notorious Traitor Headlines Avon Historical Society Event

Author Matthew Reardon will discuss Benedict Arnold's 1781 raid at the Avon Senior Center this week.


AVON, CT — Avon's America 250 celebration continues this week with a special forum on one of the most infamous men in American history.

The Avon Historical Society will host a public lecture on Benedict Arnold on Thursday, April 23, at 7 p.m. at the Avon Senior Center, 635 West Avon Road, featuring author and historian Matthew Reardon.

The talk, titled “The Traitor’s Homecoming: Benedict Arnold in Connecticut, 1781,” is presented on behalf of the Farmington Valley Heritage Network as part of the Farmington Valley towns’ 250th commemoration events.

Reardon will discuss his book examining Benedict Arnold’s raid on New London during the seventh year of the Revolutionary War.

According to event organizers, the presentation draws on newly discovered primary sources and aims to challenge common misconceptions about the campaign.

The program is co-sponsored by the Avon Senior Center.

Admission is $5 per person, payable in advance or at the door.
