Avon Program Aims To Prep Those Over 50 For Work

The Avon library will host free workshops next week on job skills, digital tools, and networking for adults 50 and over.

AVON, CT — A statewide nonprofit aims to help those over 50 gain employment skills, should the urge to work and/or switch jobs take over for them.

As a result, a three-day series of free job-readiness workshops for adults aged 50 and older will take place Tuesday to Thursday, April 28–30, at the Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road.

The program, organized by the Seniors Job Bank, a Connecticut-based nonprofit founded in 1974, is designed to connect older adults with part-time, full-time, temporary, and volunteer opportunities across the Greater Hartford area.

Each day will focus on different aspects of employment preparation:

Organizers say the sessions will cover core topics including “Foundations of Success in the Job Market,” “Digital Tools,” and “Thriving in the Next Chapter.”

The Seniors Job Bank focuses on matching experienced workers with businesses, nonprofits, and households seeking skilled, mature employees.

The workshops are intended to help participants strengthen job-search skills, adapt to evolving workplace tools, and build professional connections.

All sessions are free and open to the public.
