AVON, CT — The Avon Free Public Library will host a series of birding programs this spring and summer, focusing on conservation, identification and attracting birds to local habitats.

• The first program, “Gardening for Birds,” is set for Tuesday, May 5 at 2 p.m.

Organizers say the session will address declining North American bird populations, including familiar backyard species, and examine how landscaping and gardening choices affect bird habitats.

The program will also cover ways residents can make their yards more supportive for birds.
