Avon To Mark Pride Month This Week With 2 Celebrations

Avon will host a Pride flag-raising at the library and a community Pride Block Party.

AVON, CT — Avon will mark LGBTQ+ Pride Month with a Pride flag-raising ceremony at the Avon Free Public Library and a community Pride Block Party on Thursday, June 4.

The flag-raising ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the library, 281 Country Club Road.

During the event, town officials will read a proclamation from the Avon Town Council declaring June 2026 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Avon.

According to organizers, the Pride flag will fly at the Avon Free Public Library throughout the month of June in recognition of Pride Month.

Following the ceremony, residents are invited to attend the 5th annual Avon Pride Block Party from 4 to 7 p.m. at West Avon Congregational Church, 280 Country Club Road.

The event is billed as a community celebration and resource fair and is being organized by West Avon Congregational Church and the Avon Free Public Library.

Activities will include an ice cream truck, lawn games, craft tables, a bounce house, karaoke, storytime, face painting and free giveaways.

Organizers also announced that drag performer Bonnie Petit will be featured at the event.

Community organizations expected to participate include the Avon High School Gender and Sexuality Alliance, Avon Senior Center, Avon Youth Services Bureau, Friends for Equity, Greater Hartford Wellness, Hartford Q+, Interval House, Out Film CT, PFLAG and Youthbridge, among others.

The Pride Block Party is free and open to the public.
