The Avon History Museum, housed in a renovated former one-room schoolhouse dating to 1823, recently hosted Playhouse 44's Avon 250 committee as the group planned a presentation commemorating American independence.

"We are more than pleased that Playhouse 44 and other not-for-profits are interested in promoting our value to the community simply by having meetings right here in the Museum," Terri Wilson, president of the Avon Historical Society, said in a statement. "We encourage organizations to contact us if they are interested in sharing our local history with their colleagues in this unique 203-year-old renovated space."

Playhouse 44 is preparing Patriotic Salute: Voices of Liberty, an original production scheduled for Sept. 19 at the Avon Senior Center. The show will feature humor, poetry and music centered on patriotism and independence.

"I can't think of a better place to discuss this production," said Joel Samberg, president of Playhouse 44. "Our show, which will include humor, poetry, and music, will be all about patriotism and independence, and every square inch of this Museum is also about the patriotism and independence of our earliest residents. It couldn't be a better match."

The Avon History Museum is located at 8 East Main St. Organizations interested in using the space or learning more about the museum can contact the Avon Historical Society. Playhouse 44's upcoming performances and events are available through the theater group's online calendar.
