AVON, CT — The Town of Avon has opened two cooling centers for residents as Connecticut's Extreme Hot Weather Protocol takes effect this week.
Gov. Ned Lamont activated the statewide protocol beginning 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, through 5 p.m. Thursday, July 16, in response to forecasted high temperatures and humidity.
In Avon, residents seeking relief from the heat may visit the following locations:
Avon Senior Center
635 West Avon Road
Avon Free Public Library
281 Country Club Road
Town officials said residents who need relief from the heat outside of the cooling centers' operating hours should call Avon Non-Emergency Dispatch at 860-409-4200.
The town said arrangements will be made to provide access to a cooling facility if needed.
Officials encourage residents to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, and check on older adults, neighbors, and anyone who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.
