Primaries 2026: Who's On Avon's Ballot, What You Need To Know

AVON, CT — National and state elections are taking place on Nov. 3, but before that big day, the candidate slates must be finalized.

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Democrats and Republicans will head to the polls for primaries, where registered members of each party will choose who will be on the November ballot.

For example, statewide, Gov. Ned Lamont is being challenged by challenger Josh Elliot for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, so every town's Democrats will be making that decision.

Other hopefuls will also be on the ballot for both parties, depending on the town.

In Avon, candidates will be on the primary ballots on Tuesday, Aug. 11, when polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

They are:

For Democratic governor, voters will choose between:

• Ned Lamont, the party-endorsed candidate and two-term incumbent.
• Josh Elliott.

For Republican U.S. Representative, 5th Congressional District, GOP voters will choose among:

• Chris Shea, the party-endorsed candidate

• Jonathan De Barros

Avon voters who are registered Democrats or Republicans will have the opportunity to cast ballots early or vote on Primary Day in Connecticut's Aug. 11 primary election.

Early voting for all elections in Avon will take place at Avon Town Hall, Building 1, in The Avon Room, located at 60 West Main St. Voters may cast their ballots there during Connecticut's early voting period from Monday, Aug. 3, through Sunday, Aug. 9.

On Primary Day, Tuesday, Aug. 11, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Only voters registered with the Democratic or Republican parties are eligible to participate in the primary.

Avon is divided into three voting districts, and residents must vote at their assigned polling location on Primary Day.

Voters who are unsure of their district or polling place can use the state's online voter lookup tool to verify their registration, party affiliation and voting location.

Avon polling places for the Aug. 11 primary are:

• District 1: Avon High School Gymnasium, 510 West Avon Road
• District 2: Thompson Brook School Gymnasium, 150 Thompson Road
• District 3: Roaring Brook School Gymnasium, 30 Old Wheeler Lane

Under Connecticut primary rules, endorsed candidates are identified on the ballot with an asterisk.
