AVON, CT — National and state elections are taking place on Nov. 3, but before that big day, the candidate slates must be finalized.
On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Democrats and Republicans will head to the polls for primaries, where registered members of each party will choose who will be on the November ballot.
For example, statewide, Gov. Ned Lamont is being challenged by challenger Josh Elliot for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, so every town's Democrats will be making that decision.
Other hopefuls will also be on the ballot for both parties, depending on the town.
In Avon, candidates will be on the primary ballots on Tuesday, Aug. 11, when polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Avon voters who are registered Democrats or Republicans will have the opportunity to cast ballots early or vote on Primary Day in Connecticut's Aug. 11 primary election.
Early voting for all elections in Avon will take place at Avon Town Hall, Building 1, in The Avon Room, located at 60 West Main St. Voters may cast their ballots there during Connecticut's early voting period from Monday, Aug. 3, through Sunday, Aug. 9.
On Primary Day, Tuesday, Aug. 11, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Only voters registered with the Democratic or Republican parties are eligible to participate in the primary.
Avon is divided into three voting districts, and residents must vote at their assigned polling location on Primary Day.
