Avon Water Main Project To Affect Local Neighborhoods Through October

AVON, CT — A Connecticut Water Company project to replace aging water mains will begin in Avon next week, bringing temporary traffic impacts to portions of Orchard Street and Sunset Terrace.

Construction is scheduled to begin on or about Aug. 10 and is expected to last approximately eight weeks, weather permitting.

The project includes replacing water mains on Orchard Street between Sunset Terrace and Lovely Street and on Sunset Terrace from Avon into Farmington.

During construction, one lane of traffic will remain open at all times.

However, town officials are advising motorists who normally use the roads as cut-through routes to seek alternate routes. Local drivers are urged to use caution while traveling through the work zone.

The project comes less than a year after Orchard Street was repaved.

Town officials said they have required Connecticut Water to mill and repave the entire roadway early next summer in accordance with Avon's pavement management policies.

The town said the work is necessary to replace aging water infrastructure while ensuring the roadway is restored following construction.
