AVON, CT — Young athletes across the Farmington Valley have until Thursday, Aug. 20, to register for the upcoming fall season of the Farmington Valley NFL Flag Football League.
The co-ed recreational league is open to children in grades 1 through 9, with players divided into grade-based divisions.
The program draws participants from Avon, Burlington, Canton, Farmington, Granby, Simsbury, and surrounding communities.
Games will be played at Avon Middle School beginning Sept. 13, with practices scheduled to start the week of Labor Day.
The league emphasizes recreation, teamwork and learning the game rather than contact football. Games are non-contact and use certified officials through the Northeast Flag Football Officials organization, according to registration information.
Players receive NFL jerseys, while teams are coached by parent volunteers.
The registration fee is $170.
The scheduled game dates are Sept. 13, Sept. 20, Sept. 27, Oct. 4, Oct. 18, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. No games are scheduled for Oct. 11.
Organizers describe the program as a recreational league focused on giving children an opportunity to have fun and learn while participating in friendly competition.
Registration closes Aug. 20, and organizers said the deadline is firm.
Registration information is available through Avon Recreation at AvonRec.com.
