AVON, CT — The Town of Avon has been selected to receive the 2026 Local Government Wellspring Award for its work to support older residents and foster a more inclusive community.
The award is presented by the Connecticut Age Well Collaborative, an initiative of Connecticut Community Care, and recognizes Avon's efforts to help older adults age well in the community.
Avon is participating in the Collaborative's 2026 Community Leaders Fellowship program and has been working with older residents to develop a comprehensive local resource guide.
The guide is being developed around the Collaborative's livability framework and will identify services and other resources available to Avon residents.
It will also address how internalized, interpersonal, and institutional ageism can create barriers to accessing resources, according to the town.
Once the guide is completed, Avon plans to make it available on the town's website and Facebook page.
Town officials said the award reflects the work and collaboration that have taken place during the fellowship.
"Avon remains dedicated to strengthening community connections and ensuring that residents of all ages can thrive," the town said in announcing the recognition.
The Connecticut Age Well Collaborative will honor Avon during its AgeWell Fest: Celebration on Sept. 15 in Wethersfield. The event is open to the public, but registration is required.
More information about the Wellspring Awards, Community Leaders Fellowship, and AgeWell Fest is available through the Connecticut Age Well Collaborative.
