Simsbury-based 'Vie for the Kids' will hold its Gold Ribbon Dinner Sept. 19 at the Golf Club of Avon, with tickets available now.

AVON/SIMSBURY, CT — An upcoming dinner in Avon will raise money to help children battling cancer access clinical trials and advanced treatments close to home.

Simsbury-based 'Vie for the Kids,' an all-volunteer Connecticut nonprofit dedicated to supporting pediatric cancer research, clinical trials and families facing treatment costs, will hold its Gold Ribbon Dinner on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Golf Club of Avon, 160 Country Club Road.

The event is being held in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and will support the pediatric oncology clinical trials program at Connecticut Children's.

Vie for the Kids is a 501(c)(3) public charity based in the Farmington Valley, with a mailing address in Weatogue (Simsbury).

The organization works closely with the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Connecticut Children's in Hartford.

Its mission includes funding pediatric cancer clinical trials and research, allowing children to receive emerging treatments locally rather than traveling elsewhere for care.

The organization also provides financial assistance to families dealing with expenses while a child undergoes cancer treatment.

The Sept. 19 fundraiser will include a one-hour open bar with beer and wine, a buffet dinner, and dessert. Guests will also be able to participate in a raffle, silent auction and wine pull.

Guest speakers are expected to include a pediatric cancer patient and Dr. Michael Isakoff, division head of Hematology and Oncology at Connecticut Children's.

Organizers said all proceeds will directly benefit local pediatric cancer patients by helping fund access to "diverse, cutting-edge care close to home."

Guests are asked to wear dressy casual attire and are encouraged to add an optional touch of gold in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The deadline to RSVP is Sept. 12.
