AVON, CT — Avon voters planning to cast absentee ballots in the 2026 election can apply without providing a reason or excuse under a recently enacted state law.
Absentee ballots are now being issued to Avon voters for the Nov. 3 election, with voters no longer required to provide an excuse to use one in 2026, according to information from the town.
The town began issuing absentee ballots Friday, Oct. 2. Voters can apply online, download an application, or obtain one from the Avon Town Clerk's Office.
Avon officials are encouraging applicants to provide a phone number and email address so the Avon Town Clerk's Office can contact them if there is a problem with an application.

The town also cautions voters that only certain people are permitted to return an absentee ballot on someone else's behalf.
According to the town's voting guidance, improper possession or return of another person's absentee ballot is a Class D felony.
