5 Things To Know In Avon: Voter Registration Deadline, Flu Clinic, Library Book Sale And More

AVON, CT — Avon voters have until Friday to register online or by mail for the Nov. 3 election, a public flu clinic comes to Town Hall Thursday, and the Friends of the Avon Library hold a three-day used book sale.

1. Friday Is The Deadline To Register Online Or By Mail
When: Deadline Friday, Oct. 16; early voting starts Monday, Oct. 19
Where: Avon Town Hall, 60 W. Main St.
What to know: Friday, Oct. 16, is the deadline for online and mail-in voter registration for the Nov. 3 election, according to the Avon Registrars of Voters. After that, residents can register and vote the same day in person, during early voting in the Avon Room at Town Hall, Building 1, or on Election Day in the Selectman's Chambers. Early voting runs Oct. 19 through Nov. 1, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with hours extended to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 27 and Oct. 29. On Election Day, polls at Avon High School, Thompson Brook School and Roaring Brook School are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Questions go to the registrars at 860-409-4350.

2. Public Flu Clinic At Town Hall
When: Thursday, Oct. 15, 9 to 11 a.m.
Where: Avon Town Hall, 60 W. Main St.
What to know: The Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Litchfield County holds a public flu clinic, according to the clinic schedule posted by the town. Accepted insurance includes Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Harvard Pilgrim, Medicare Part B, UnitedHealthcare Advantage (over 65), and ConnectiCare. Without insurance, a regular dose for adults 18 and older is $50 and a high dose for adults over 65 is $100, cash or check. Questions go to 860-379-8561.

3. Friends Of The Avon Library Book Sale
When: Friday, Oct. 16, 4 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 17, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 18, noon to 3 p.m.
Where: Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road
What to know: The Friends of the Avon Library hold their used book sale over three days, according to the town.

4. Hike To Heublein Tower For The Tower Toot
When: Saturday, Oct. 17, 11 a.m. (arrive by 10:45 a.m.); rain date Sunday, Oct. 18
Where: Nod Way Trailhead, Nod Way
What to know: The Avon Land Trust and Avon Recreation & Parks lead a hike to Heublein Tower and the "Tower Toot" music festival, according to the event flyer. The hike has steep climbs, and the return trip starts at 1 p.m. Registration is at avonct.myrec.com.

5. Town Offices Closed Monday
When: Monday, Oct. 12
Where: Avon Town Hall, 60 W. Main St.
What to know: Town offices, Public Works, the Senior Center, the landfill, and the library are closed Monday, Oct. 12, for Columbus Day, according to the town.
